Preparation
Ensure the surface is clean, dry and free from oil, dirt and grease or flaking coatings.
- Remove loose or flaking paint, fill cracks or holes with filler and sand smooth.
- Abrade any silk, satin or glossy surfaces before painting over.
- Treat any mould with scouring pad and bleach solution (1 part to 3 with water), leave on the surface for 15 minutes then wash with clean water and dry.
- New dry plaster, or porous surfaces should be primed with a coat of or other suitable primers.
Application
As with all of the Artisan paint effects, it is suggested that you practice the application process on a separate board/s where possible to allow you to discover your preferred result, trying a few different application tools to see what suits your scheme best.
- If multiple tins have been purchased, it is recommended to pour all tins of Craig & Rose Stainless Steel Effect into a clean dry container to ensure evenness of colour.
- Stir thoroughly prior to use.
- Mask off adjacent walls, skirting boards and cornices.
- Brush around the edges of the wall.
- Apply the first coat with a medium nap roller using light, even pressure.
- Take the roller close to the edge to cover the brush marks.
- Working in small sections, apply the second coat with a roller.
- While the paint is still wet, drag the brush in a random pattern. Best results are achieved by lightly brushing in one direction or reworking paint to achieve a brushed stainless steel effect. Make sure to overlap brushed areas to achieve an even effect. Avoid touching up.
- Spraying: On broad wall areas application by spray is recommended as this will give a more authentic look. Thin with 5% water if required. Apply 3-4 thin coats to achieve the desired effect and coverage.
- Thinning: Recommended for spraying only. Thin with 5% water.
- Ensure the previous coat has fully dried for 4 hours before over coating.
Aftercare & Storage
Store in a frost-free place and do not allow the paint to freeze.
